Tonight

Spaceballs

Thursday • August 7 • 7:00pm
Throwback Thursday at The Iowa Theater

The Throwback Thursday theme in August is space, and they’re starting it off with a classic (of sorts!)

In a distant galaxy, planet Spaceball has depleted its air supply, leaving its citizens reliant on a product called “Perri-Air.” In desperation, Spaceball’s leader President Skroob (Mel Brooks) orders the evil Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) to kidnap Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) of oxygen-rich Druidia and hold her hostage in exchange for air. But help arrives for the Princess in the form of renegade space pilot Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his half-man, half-dog partner, Barf (John Candy). 1987, Rated PG, 1 hr 36 min

Freakier Friday

August 8 & 9 • 7:00pm & August 10 • 2:00pm

The story picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. New Exhibits

Mama’s Got the Blues

On exhibit through November 30
Iowa Quilt Museum

Indigo and white quilts were a favorite among 19th-century quilt makers—and they continue to captivate collectors today. Known for its rich, colorfast qualities, indigo dye has produced stunning blue hues for centuries. Quilt makers across America often paired these deep blues with crisp whites, creating bold, timeless designs.

This exhibit showcases 22 quilts from the personal collection of artist Merry Silber, lovingly preserved and expanded by her daughter. It’s a family tribute to the enduring beauty of blue and white quilts—meant to be shared and celebrated.

The Iowa Quilt Museum is currently open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Sundays Noon to 4:00pm. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, veterans and active military, $5 for children (ages 3-12) and students (including undergraduate and graduate) with ID

Human/Nature

August 8-10 • 5:00-8:00pm
Winterset Art Center

In *Human/Nature*, artist Marie Sussman explores the deep and often overlooked connection between humans and the natural world. Through watercolor and pottery, Marie give animals and elements of nature human characteristics—expressive eyes, emotional gestures, postures of thought and resilience—to reflect the shared experiences, instincts, and emotions that bind us. These pieces are not just representations of animals or landscapes, but portraits of humanity mirrored in the wild.

This exhibit will be on display this Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Friday will also be an artist reception.
