Weekend in Winterset • January 12

Several things scheduled for this weekend have been cancelled, but as far as I can determine—at this point in time—the events I’ve listed for this weekend are still happening. Of course, it’s a good idea to call ahead, or check the social media pages, to be sure. If you do venture out tomorrow, be cautious and prepared!

This Weekend

Pancake Breakfast

Saturday • January 13 • 7:00 – 11:00am
American Legion Hall

The American Legion Pancake Breakfast is still on for Saturday morning! For the past couple of years, the members of the legion have been working to update the facilities at the legion hall, and the proceeds from this breakfast will go toward refurbishing the interior lighting. A few days ago the legion announced that “part of the proceeds from the Pancake Breakfast this Saturday will be allocated to the fund raiser that the Mindon Legion Post is doing. The funds will be provided to the students and families of Perry HS. Will have a box at the breakfast for donations. If you attend, please contribute if possible.”

The true story of the inseparable Von Erich brothers, who make history in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s. Through tragedy and triumph, under the shadow of their domineering father and coach, the brothers seek larger-than-life immortality on the biggest stage in sports. Time magazine says “the film makes the world of professional wrestling understandable and approachable to those who don’t know wrestling”. People magazine says “the emotion of the story grips you like a half-nelson.” Rated R, 2 hr, 12 min

Titanic

Wednesday • January 17 • 6:30pm
The Iowa Theater

The Iowa Theater recently announced a new line-up of selections for Way Back Wednesday and the theme for January is…stay warm, and stay at the Iowa a little longer, with monumental titles with longer runtimes! As such, Wednesday flicks will start at 6:30 in the month of January.

James Cameron’s “Titanic” is an epic, action-packed romance set against the ill-fated maiden voyage of the R.M.S. Titanic; the pride and joy of the White Star Line and, at the time, the largest moving object ever built. She was the most luxurious liner of her era — the “ship of dreams” — which ultimately carried over 1,500 people to their death in the ice cold waters of the North Atlantic in the early hours of April 15, 1912. 1997, PG-13, 3 hr 14 min
