Even though it’s the ‘off season,’ there’s still plenty to learn from a visit to the Madison County Historical Museum next Tuesday morning. Join others with curious minds on the second Tuesday of each month for a short presentation on a historic topic and to share your own insights. This month’s Hill O’ Beans topic is “Reading Between the Lines” and will be a historical discussion of the Winterset Public Library.


Dry Point Felt Animals Class

Tuesday • January 9 • 6:30 – 8:30pm
Winterset Art Center

Start the New Year with a new hobby—the Winterset Art Center will help! Needle felting is easy to learn and Amy Maiers will guide the class through tips and techniques to create life like animals using wool fibers. This class is recommended for children in 6th grade through adults. Cost is $32 for WAC members and $35 for non members.

It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

The Iowa Theater recently announced a new line-up of selections for Way Back Wednesday and the theme for January is…stay warm, and stay at the Iowa a little longer, with monumental titles with longer runtimes! As such, Wednesday flicks will start at 6:30 in the month of January.

The story of “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” begins during a massive traffic jam, caused by reckless driver Smiler Grogan (Jimmy Durante), who, before kicking the bucket, cryptically tells the assembled drivers that he’s buried a fortune in stolen loot, under the Big W. Friday is the last day of the semester at Winterset Schools, and the library is helping kids celebrate the early dismissal time with a free movie and free popcorn! The movie will start at 1:30; bring a blanket and a friend.


Pancake Breakfast

American Legion Hall

Enjoy a delicious of pancakes, sausage, & eggs next Saturday at the American Legion Hall. For the past couple of years, the members of the legion have been working to update the facilities at the legion hall, and the proceeds from this breakfast will go toward refurbishing the interior lighting.

Musical Theater Experience

Madison County Music Co, The Winterset Stage, and Winterset Ballet & Dance

The Winterset Stage, Madison County Music Co., and Winterset Ballet and Dance are teaming up to provide young people a terrific chance to get acquainted with Musical Theater. Students will take part in preparing a 30-minute version of a musical, complete with singing, acting, costumes, choreography…the works! Class will meet on Friday afternoons from 4:00 – 6:00 (younger students will not need to attend the full two hours.) Registration is being handled through Madison County Music Co.—use the button below.
