This breakfast fly-in is a fun new addition to this year’s John Wayne Birthday Celebration. The theme of the celebration this year is, “A Salute to the Armed Forces,” and this fly-in will feature vintage military aircraft. The forecast is looking like the weather will be absolutely perfect for this event!

Community Band Concert Series

Madison County Historical Complex
The sound of one of our favorite summer pastimes will soon be filling the air with the return of the Winterset Community Band Summer Concert Series. This volunteer group of community musicians will hold weekly concerts on Thursdays evenings June 1st through July 13th (no concert on July 6). Dinner or dessert will be served each week at 6:00 by local community groups and intermissions will feature additional entertainment. This week, the Madison County Historical Society will be serving Beef burgers as a fundraiser for the Passport to the Past activities. Jennie and David Hargrove will the the intermission entertainment.
Iowa Quilt Festival

Iowa Quilt Museum & Around
What started five years ago as the “Madison County Airing of the Quilts” has now expanded to become the Iowa Quilt Festival. Spanning four days, the event includes classes & events, a quilting retreat and concludes with the Airing of the Quilts on Saturday, June 3rd. Even if you’re not a quilter, you’ll enjoy visiting sights around Madison County that will be adorned with quilt displays. Residents are also encouraged to become part of the community-wide festival by displaying quilts outdoors at their homes and businesses on Saturday, June 3rd. I always hang some from the railing of my deck but you could also hang them on a clothesline, lay them in your patio furniture, etc.

Make Music This Summer
Registration Open for Summer Lessons & Classes
Madison County Music Co.
Madison County Music Co. is accepting registrations for summer private and group lessons on piano, violin, cello, voice, flute, guitar and ukulele, as well as several classes:
- Ukulele Summer Camp
- Music Together Classes (babies, toddlers, and preschoolers with a parent or caregiver)
- Kinder Choir (4 and 5 year olds)
- Beginning Violin Class (4, 5 and 6 year olds)
