Next Week

African Queen

Wednesday • April 19 • 7:00pm
Way Back Wednesday at the Iowa Theater

Way Back Wednesday films in the month of April are celebrating the career of Katherine Hepburn with films that demonstrate her talent and range.

After religious spinster’s (Katharine Hepburn) missionary brother is killed in WWI Africa, dissolute steamer captain (Humphrey Bogart) offers her safe passage. She’s not satisfied so she persuades him to destroy a German gunboat. The two spend most of their time fighting with each other rather than the Germans. Time alone on the river leads to love. 1951, PG, 1 hr, 45 min

Winterset Neighbors Connection

Thursday • 4/20 • 7:00pm
Winterset Public Library

The monthly Neighbors Connection gathering is a friendly, casual, no stress social opportunity to help Winterset residents “make the most” of living in Madison County. Newcomers—and not-so-newcomers—can learn about what is happening in Madison County, how to finding what you might looking for, and make new friends. All ages are welcome and there is no cost or obligation, just your time and desire to meet people and enjoy snacks and conversation for an hour. The only agenda is to help you know more about Madison County and work together to make our community the best it can be!

The program in April will be from David Hargrove, director of the Winterset Public Library. David will share information about the wide variety of resources and services available at the library. If you’d like more information, contact Chris Baumgarn at the Library (515.462.1731). See you soon!

Planning Ahead

Auditions for Bye Bye Birdie

Sunday • 4/23 • 6:00pm
Monday • 4/24 • 7:00pm
The Winterset Stage

The Winterset Stage will soon be holding auditions for their next community musical, Bye Bye Birdie. Their last musical, Oklahoma, featured a cast of over 40 musicians and actors and their hoping for at least as many—or even more—in this cast! All adults and teens are encouraged to audition regardless of experience.

Auditions will held on Sunday, April 23rd, at 6:00pm, and Monday, April 24th, at 7:00pm, at the Madison County Music Co. studio, 123 W Jefferson (entrance is directly across from Country Cutters/H&R Block). Interested actors and singers need to attend just one session and all auditions materials will be provided (nothing needs to be prepared in advance). Contact managing director, Megan Barrett with any questions: info@TheWintersetStage.org

Bye Bye Birdie is a loving send-up of the 1950s, small-town America, teenagers, and rock & roll! Teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie has been drafted, so he chooses All-American girl Kim MacAfee for a very public farewell kiss. Birdie features a tuneful high-energy score, plenty of great parts for both teens and adults, and a hilarious script.

Signing up in advance to audition isn’t required, it just helps them plan for materials!
