New Volunteer Program in our Community!

HIRTA (Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency) is excited to announce the launch of their Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). RSVP began as an outgrowth by private groups and government agencies to create opportunities of engagement, activity, and growth for older Americans. HIRTA’s main focus is transportation, nutrition and companionship with a goal to ensure there is a volunteer driver program in each of their seven counties.

RSVP is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people 55 and older. RSVP in Iowa began in 1972 and each year in Iowa, approximately 5,000 RSVP Volunteers serve 350,000 hours. HIRTA is very excited to get this program going in our area so that we can all have a hand in making a positive impact in our community.

Volunteers in RSVP are age 55 or older. As a volunteer, they might drive people to medical appointments, the pharmacy, and grocery stores. For companionship outings, they meet with clients and provide services identified in their individual plan. In addition to providing valuable services to individuals and communities, volunteers are also living active lives through volunteering. A growing body of research shows an association between volunteering and mental and physical health benefits. In particular, older volunteers report lower mortality rates, lower rates of depression, fewer physical limitations, and higher levels of well-being than those in the same demographic who do not volunteer.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or are in need of assistance, visit the HIRTA website at www.RideHIRTA.com/volunteer to apply or learn more about the program. If you don’t have access to the internet or would prefer to apply over the phone or by mail, please call their toll-free number at 1 (877) 686-0029 or email mchihak@ridehirta.com.

Welcome to our New Sponsor

Winterset Travel Agency

Our local U-Haul store is under new ownership and is now also Winterset Travel Agency!

You can book a U-Haul vehicle, purchase moving supplies and even hire moving help. And the owner, Zach Newbrough, can help plan that next vacation or business trip. He specializes in cruises and Disney trips, but can book it all! Visit him and see how he can get you extra OBC (on-board credit) on your next cruise.

Additionally, they will be selling local artists’ homemade products such as soaps and lotions, body scrubs, leather work, and crafts and an artist will be working out of their location doing commissioned pieces.

We welcome Winterset Travel Agency and Zach Newbrough to the Winterset Business Community! Located at 601 S 1st Ave (JW Drive & Summit).
