All children entering 1st through 6th grades are invited to attend Vacation Bible School camp at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The program is a collaboration between the St. Paul Congregation and Riverside Bible Camp. There is no cost to attend and lunch will be provided each day. The Winterset Library is hosting their end-of-summer party at the Winterset Aquatic Center and will be also be opening the 25 year old time capsule this Saturday at 6:00pm. Registration is required so just call the library today to get your name on this list!

Wellness Wednesdays in Winterset
The August line-up of Wellness Wednesdays in Winterset will kick off with the monthly “Walk around the Clock” on August 4, at 12 noon, on the square. Guest “DJ” for August is Chris Baumgarn, from the Winterset Public Library who has selected “Hit Songs from Movies from the 80s.” Get your steps in while you listen to hit songs from movies such as Caddyshack, Footloose, Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, and many others. Leg warmers, headbands, and parachute pants are completely optional.
The remaining Wednesdays in August will each feature a “Lunch & Learn” program at Noon at the Winterset Public Library:
August 11 – Director of the Madison County Emergency Management Agency, Diogenes Ayala, will discuss emergency preparedness and situational awareness. Learn how to better prepare your family for weather disasters and other life threatening events.
August 18 – Madison County Extension and Outreach County Youth Coordinator, Ellen Lupkes, will give a description of a new program that helps teens develop strategies to cope with stress. The workshop series is based on the book, “The Mindful Teen: Powerful Skills to Help You Handle Stress One Moment at a Time,” by Dr. Dzung Vo, an adolescent medicine specialist and clinical associate professor at the University of British Columbia.
August 25 – How Sweet It Is: Sugar Shock – Stephanie Labenz, Registered Dietitian with Aging Resources of Central Iowa will be discussing the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans regarding added sugar. Would you be shocked how much added sugar is in certain food or drinks? Together we will navigate our way through a nutrition label.

Iowa Quilt Museum
Even though in-person visitor numbers have made a remarkable comeback this summer, the Iowa Quilt Museum is still utilizing online opportunities to bring great educational programs to quilters and quilt appreciators here in our community and across the country. Tune in on Friday, August 6th, for a lecture from celebrated quilter Paula Nadelstern. Tickets are just $10 and can be purchased through the Iowa Quilt Museum.
