The Awful Truth
Thursday • February 13 • 7:00pm
Throwback Thursday at The Iowa Theater
Jerry (Cary Grant) and Lucy (Irene Dunne) are a married couple who doubt each other’s fidelity: Jerry suspects Lucy and her music teacher (Alexander D’Arcy) of spending an evening together, and Lucy is convinced Jerry lied about a business trip. When the jealous pair file for divorce, both rush into new relationships, but quickly realize their love never died. The soon-to-be-divorced husband and wife then both scramble to spoil each other’s chances for newfound romance. 1937, Not Rated, 1 hr 31 min

Sam (who my son informs me is the new Captain America!) finds himself in the middle of an international incident after meeting with President Thaddeus Ross. He must soon discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red. (and evidently there’s a red Hulk…or so I have learned from a series of laundry detergent commercials recently!) PG-13, 1 hr 58 min

Sing Sing
Sunday • February 16 • 5:30pm
Sunday Movie Club at The Iowa Theater
“Sing Sing” premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival and is based on a real-life rehabilitation-through-the-arts program at Sing Sing Maximum Security Prison in New York State. The story focuses on a group of incarcerated men who create theatrical stage shows while serving time. The lead character, Divine G, imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit, finds purpose in what one reviewer called, “a story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art.”
“Sing Sing” is the February installment of the Sunday Movie Club series, a once-a-month screening on the third Sunday of each month that offers slightly off-the-beaten-path, often thought-provoking films that have received critical acclaim. Last month’s film, “Emilia Perez,” (2024) has received a record number of Academy Award nominations.
Rebecca Fons, film curator at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago, programs The Iowa’s regular movie selections, as well as movie club offerings. Of “Sing Sing,” she says, “With a cast that includes a number of real life, previously incarcerated men who have been through the acting program depicted, [Sing Sing] packs an emotional wallop. I wept through much of it, but they were welcome tears—the film is beautiful.”
Movie Club members pay $75 per year for 12 movies, but anyone can attend by buying a single ticket for $8. An optional, brief discussion similar to book-club discussions, follows the credits. Concession-stand offerings at The Iowa include beer, wine, hard cider, Coke products, movie candies, and Iowa grown popcorn served with real butter.
Join the Madison County Community Choir
and/or Family Choir
First Rehearsals Sunday, February 16th
Family Choir 5:45 – 6:15
Community Choir: 6:30 – 7:30
Madison County Music Co, 123 W Jefferson

The Madison County Community Choir will begin rehearsals again next Sunday, February 16th, and this time there’s a new singing opportunity—family choir!
The Community Choir (adults and advanced teens) and Family Choir will both perform at the Winterset Stage’s ‘Night of Vaudeville’, which is actually three shows, March 14-16th. This high-class variety show serves as a fundraiser for the WInterset Stage’s Fine Arts Scholarship program that benefits young people in Madison County by offering financial assistance for fine arts lessons, classes, workshops and camps.
Singers of all experience and ability levels are welcome in both ensembles. The only rule for family choir is that your family has to have at least two generations represented (parents & kids, grandparents & grandkids).
The rehearsal schedule is short, so it’s not a major time commitment:
Each choir will meet four times: Sundays, February 16, February 23, and March 9, and a dress rehearsal on Wednesday, March 12. Family Choir will rehearse from 5:45 – 6:15 and Community Choir from 6:30 – 7:30.
Parents and Grandparents can decide what age is appropriate for kiddos in their family to join the family choir, but the recommendation is about 7 at least.
If you’re interested in participating in either choir, please email director Megan Barrett at MadisonCountyMusicCo@gmail.com. Participants are asked to contribute $20 for community choir or $10 for family choir to help cover the cost of music and accompanying musicians.
