Iowa State University Extension & Outreach
Grab-n-Go May Day Basket making materials are available for pick up from the ISU Extension & Outreach office. All finished baskets are due back to the Extension Office by 4pm on Friday, April 30th, and will be distributed to various care facilities throughout the county on May 1st. Feel free to include a nice note or some sweet treats in your basket! (side note…making May Day baskets doesn’t have to be just for kids!)

Magic of Madison County Virtual Variety Show

The Winterset Stage
Recording sessions are well under way for the Magic of Madison County Virtual Variety Show that will air next Friday, April 30th. The Winterset Stage has taken over the production of the spring variety show that was hosted by the Winterset Lions Show for seven decades. Already they were planning to put their own touches on the format and layout of the show, but this year necessitated an even bigger change–taking the show to a virtual format!
Fifteen acts are lined up for this year’s performance which will last approximately 90 minutes. You’ll be able to see some of your favorite ‘standard’ acts like the Benge Family, the WHS Jazz Band and the Tutor Three, but there will be several talented community members that are new to this production. The virtual format also allows for some acts that wouldn’t normally be available, like performing canines from Happy Acres Dog Training. It’s truly going to be a variety show!
How to Watch
There are three prices for tickets, depending on who is actually viewing:
- SINGLE viewer – $5 – purchase two if you’re a couple
- One FAMILY – $20
- WATCH PARTY – $30 – gather some friends or another family and watch together. Of course, we want you to be COVID responsible!
Purchase a ticket online from The Winterset Stage. When you checkout, you will be required to enter your email address. The show link will be emailed to you by Friday, April 30th at Noon.

Bras for the Cause Derby Day

Covered Bridges Winery
Join Bras for the Cause at their Derby Day event on Saturday, May 1st, at Covered Bridges Winery in Winterset. Join in the spirit of all things Derby and wear your finest hat! There will be prizes for Women and Men in the following categories: Biggest, Funniest, & Most Elaborate. (Judging at 4pm) There will also be games in the yard, snacks and desserts available for sale, and the opportunity to get your picture taken with Minnie the mini horse. The WHS Jazz will be providing some toe-tapping entertainment from 2:00 to 4:00pm.
There is no cover charge for this event but donations are appreciated. All funds go toward providing recommended screenings for uninsured and underinsured Madison County women.
U4 Parent & Player Soccer
Registration is now OPEN for the Winterset Area Soccer Club’s U4 Parent & Player Program. This program is for kids born in 2017 & 2018. A parent is required to participate is this program. Practices will be on Thursday evenings June 3rd, 10th and 17th. If you have questions, please email: wascregistrar@gmail.com. Register online through the WASC.
History on the Hill o’ Beans
