E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

Thursday • June 5 • 7:00pm
Throwback Thursday at The Iowa Theater

Pack some tissues for this one!

Tomboy Vada Sultenfuss (Anna Chlumsky) has good reason to be morbid: her mother died giving birth to her, and her father (Dan Aykroyd) operates a funeral service out of their home. The other kids think she’s a freak, and it certainly doesn’t help that her best friend, Thomas J. Sennett (Macaulay Culkin), is a boy. To make matters worse, Vada is desperately in love with her English teacher, Mr. Bixler (Griffin Dunne). What’s an 11-year-old girl to do? 1991, Rate PG, 1 hr 32 min

Indianapolis String Quartet

Friday • June 6 • 7:00pm
The Iowa Theater – FREE CONCERT!

The Zenith Chamber Music Festival is expanding outside of the Des Moines metro and the’ve chosen the beautiful Iowa Theater to host the Indianapolis String Quartet this Friday. This performance is part of their ongoing mission to bring chamber music into unique locations across the greater Des Moines area.

In a truly one-of-a-kind experience, this interactive concert will allow the audience to help shape the journey of the performance. Guided by an emcee, attendees will vote on and influence the musical direction. Beginning with two contrasting pieces, the quartet will explore different styles and eras, allowing the audience to determine what comes next. This dynamic exchange makes for a truly one-of-a-kind chamber music experience. It’s a rare opportunity to engage with the music in an entirely new way, making it an evening you won’t want to miss. And it’s a FREE Concert!
