This Weekend

Pathways to a Sustainable Future

Saturday • April 27 • 3:00 – 5:00pm
Pammel Park Lodge

Over the next several months, Madison County Conservation will be holding four community discussions around the book, Tending Iowa’s Land, edited by Cornelia F. Mutel. In a straightforward and friendly style, Iowa’s premier scientists consider what has happened to our land and outline viable solutions that benefit agriculture as well as our human and wildlife residents. Books can be found at Winterset Public Library and Brick Roads Books in Winterset.

Each discussion will feature a contributing author from the book, the first being James Pease. Jim has nearly four decades of experience as an interpreter, professor, and writer. He has taught thousands, from youth through senior citizens, in formal and non-formal settings. He spent over two decades as an Extension Wildlife Specialist, director of Iowa’s NatureMapping and Master Conservationist programs, and fifteen years in youth development and natural resources. He is now retired from ISU, has emeritus status in the Natural Resource Ecology and Management Department at Iowa State University and is active speaking, writing, and consulting on numerous projects. He can still be heard on Iowa Public Radio in his monthly wildlife program on “Talk of Iowa.”

This program is free an no registration is required. The event will conclude with an optional hike. If you have questions, contact Jessie Lowry at jlowry@madisoncounty.iowa.gov or 515-462-3536

Love’s Labour’s Lost

April 16 & 27 • 7:00pm
Winterset High School

Once very four years, Meredith Miller, HS Drama director puts the young thespians through their Shakespeare paces, in the is year the year! Now, I confess that I am not a died-in-the-wood fan of The Bard, and have never read any of his works beyond the required Romeo and Juliette scenes in 9th grade English. However, I saw a Shakespeare production last year and found it hilariously entertaining, and I’m really looking forward to this one. These young actors work exceptionally hard to produce their shows, all the while balancing school work, part-time jobs, and other activities.

You have two chances to watch the show, Friday, April 26th, and Saturday, April 27th, both at 7:00pm. Tickets are $6 at the door (an absolute steal!)
