Weekend in Winterset • February 15

Tonight

Winterset Fieldhouse Public Information Meeting

Thursday • February 15 • 6:00pm
Winterset Public Library

In 2021, the city completed a Needs Assessment, followed by creating a Parks, Recreation and Trails Master Plan in 2022. One of the priorities identified during both of those projects was the need for indoor recreational space. From that feedback, the city developed a team to assist us in the development of a Business Plan for indoor space for our city and county residents.

Next Thursday, that plan will be shared with the community at two public meetings. Prior to the attending one those meetings, you are encouraged you to read the Winterset Fieldhouse Business Plan http://tinyurl.com/4394xnhz and to review the Needs Assessment http://tinyurl.com/mrxfb2ey and Parks, Recreation & Trails Master Plan http://tinyurl.com/yuzbhhzd

Grant Wood: Prairie Rebel

Thursday • February 22 • 6:00pm
Winterset Public Library

The Winterset Public Library will present a very unique program next Thursday evening highlighting one of Iowa’s most famous citizens, Grant Wood, who created one of the most famous paintings of all time, American Gothic.

In this 45-minute, one-man show, Grant Wood chats with the audience as if talking to an old friend across the backyard fence, or maybe at his home at Five Turner Alley in Cedar Rapids. He tells us about his life and how he changed the art world forever with his work. It is the man behind American Gothic that we hear and see, and the story of how he took the moments, the memories and the people of our state to show the whole world the specialness of this Iowa. After the presentation, the audience is encouraged to ask questions about Grant Wood and his life.
