New Exhibit

Photos, Pixels, & Pizzazz

On exhibit through March 10
Iowa Quilt Museum

The Iowa Quilt Museum opened a new exhibit this week featuring arts quilts by renowned quilter Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry. The IQM is open Monday through Saturday 10:00am to 4:00pm and Sundays 12:00 to 4:00pm.

Throughout her 48-year career as a quilt artist, Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry has loved bold, graphic designs, brilliant colors and illusions of light and shadow. That’s the PIZZAZZ in this exhibit. In the same 48 years, the tools available to achieve those effects in fabric have changed dramatically. When Fallert-Gentry began quilting, the rotary cutter seemed revolutionary. In 1989, when she won Best of Show at the American Quilters Society show with a machine quilted, contemporary design, it caused a minor uproar among traditionalists. At that time, she was still drawing her designs on graph paper with colored pencils. In 1990 she purchased her first computer, and immediately began looking for ways to use it as a design tool. That’s where the PIXELS come in. Her current computer is a Microsoft Surface Design Studio, which allows her to draw and paint directly on a touch screen. Some of the PHOTOS she has used in my recent quilts were taken by her husband, Ron Gentry. The others were all taken by Caryl herself. Most of the quilts in Photos, Pixels & Pizzazz have been made in the last ten years.

Beer Choir: Holiday Edition

Friday • December 15 • 8:00pm
Madison County Music Co & Beer Choir of Central Iowa
at The Drift

Beer Choir is a social singing event open to all, no talent required! It’s so simple—you get a beer, get a seat, and let yourself be led through a couple hours of hilarious drinking songs from the official songbook, the Beer Choir Hymnal! This time around, the choir will also be singing from the Holiday Nog Chaser Supplement!

Holiday apparel—including ugly Christmas sweaters—is encouraged!

Non-beer drinkers are also welcome—The Drift has a great selection of wines, cocktails, mocktails, appetizers and soft drinks. And if you just want to drink and listen, you’re welcome, too, but don’t be surprised when you end up joining in the singing!

There is no cover charge.
