Planning Ahead

Community Planning Sessions: A Night of Vaudeville

Sunday • January 22 • 6:00pm
Monday • January 23 • 7:00pm
The Winterset Stage at The Iowa Theater

The Winterset Stage is holding two Community Planning Sessions to brainstorm ideas for their high-class variety show, A Night of Vaudeville, and they want you and your ideas! If you want to volunteer yourself and your act, they’d love to hear all about it. If you know of someone else in the community who might have a talent to showcase, come share that—better yet, invite them to come! If you want to participate, but don’t have an act, come and they’ll help connect you with a way you can be involved. Perhaps you like to sing and they can help match you with an instrumentalist. Or you like to write poetry, but want someone else to perform it. They’ll also be putting together players who can perform the commercials they’re writing for the show sponsors. Think broadly with your definition of talent—they’re especially on-the-hunt for non-musical acts…juggling, magic, comedy, dance, demonstrations, etc.

Musical Theater Class

Fridays • Starting February 3rd • 4:00 – 5:30pm
The Winterset Stage and Madison County Music Co.

Your child can step into the spotlight during this eight-week course offered by The Winterset Stage and Madison County Music Co. that will culminate in a performance of Seussical The Musical, Jr. Tuition is $180 and students age 10 and up are invited—no audition is necessary.

Those who cherish Winterset’s single-screen theater for its movies, stage productions, special events, and 540-lightbulb marquee can express their love on February 4 at the theater’s first fundraising gala, titled WE [heart] THE IOWA. Tickets are $75 per person, and include an open bar, an array of savory and sweet treats catered by Petite Café, bottomless popcorn, and a screening of the classic film, “It Happened One Night,” starring Clarke Gable and Claudette Colbert. Doors open at 5:30, and the movie starts at 6:30, giving attendees plenty of time to mingle, munch, and settle in for a delightful 1934 romantic comedy.

The event is targeted at reducing The Iowa’s renovation debt and local merchants are on board with gala specials. Angel Wings & CT will take 25% off regular price dressy ensembles throughout January, up to the day of the event. “Just let our staff know you’re going to the party,” proprietor Nicole Kems said. Terri Kuhns at Village Bootery will discount selected men’s and women’s dressy shoe styles now through the day of the event by 20%. Ladies can call Salon 107 at 515-462-4247 to schedule special event hairstyling for $30. Anyone who purchases any “Love” related jewelry at B Shannon Designs on February 3rd or 4th will be treated to special handmade chocolates from Infusion Chocolates.
