Concert Series with Megan Barrett

Music is good for the brain, the body, and the soul! Head to the library on the first Friday of each month at 2:00pm for a mini-concert with Megan Barrett and friends (yes, that’s me). Each month’s program will feature a variety of tunes guaranteed to fill you with warm nostalgia, get your toe tapping, and have you humming (or singing along). Kinnick: The Documentary

Madison County Historical Museum Lounge

Head ‘up the hill’ on the second Tuesday of each month for a cup of coffee, a short presentation on a historic topic, and to share your own historical insights. This month’s topic is “Indigenous People of Early Madison County.”  Just who lived here before white settlers arrived in the spring of 1846?  You will know much more after you attend!

Prairie Seed Harvest Webinar

Have you ever wondered how to harvest and grow your favorite native seeds? The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Office, joined by Bill Johnson, Biologist at the Iowa DNR Prairie Resource Center, will share info about harvesting, preparing, and storing 100 species of native grasses, sedges and wildflowers annually. Beer Choir at The Drift

Beer Choir is a social singing event open to all, no talent required! It’s so simple—you get a beer, get a seat, and let yourself be led through a couple hours of hilarious drinking songs from the official songbook, the Beer Choir Hymnal!

Non-beer drinkers are also welcome—The Drift has a great selection of wines, cocktails, appetizers and soft drinks. And if you just want to drink and listen, you’re welcome, too, but don’t be surprised when you end up joining in the singing!


Optimist Turkey Dinner

Winterset High School Cafeteria

Enjoy turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, dressing, vegetables, rolls, and dessert at the Annual Optimist Turkey Dinner. You’ll also be waited on by members of the Winterset Optimist and Junior Optimist Clubs—and they do the dishes! Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children 5-12. All proceeds from this annual dinner are funneled through the Winterset Optimist Club back into the community through their financial support of youth activities.

Planning Ahead

Art of UV Resin Casting

Saturday • November 19 • 2:30 – 4:00pm
Winterset Art Center

Join Amy Maiers as she leads class participants through the art of UV resin casting. In a fun afternoon, create and take home two pieces of jewelry—one for yourself and one to gift. All supplies are provided at this class which is appropriate for ages 12 and up. Registration fee is $25.00. Register online to save your seat.


Youth Basketball League

Saturdays • Beginning January 7

Winterset Parks & Recreation Dept.

The Winterset Parks & Recreation Youth Basketball League offers various divisions for boys and girls in grades 1-6. Games will be played on Saturdays beginning January 7th. Participants in grades 3-6 will be playing against teams from Adel, Perry, and Van Meter, so occasional travel to these towns is to be expected. Teams will be selected through a draft following a skills clinic with all participants on November 20th led by Husky coaches and players. The registration fee is $30 with the deadline being November 13th.
