This Weekend

Top Gun: Maverick

July 1 & 2 • 7:00pm, July 3 • 2:00pm
The Iowa Theater

After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. Training a detachment of graduates for a special assignment, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it. PG-13, 2hr 11 min

My family and I saw this last weekend. I was skeptical—would Tom Cruise still be able to deliver on such an iconic level? I’m happy to report that we all loved it! There were great nostalgic moments for us ‘seasoned’ Top Gun fans, enough cool action sequences for our 10 year-old son to enjoy, and a storyline that was well-written and engaging. Plus…that smile…

There is no cost to attend and the drink special of the night will be the “Perfect Fourth” Flight—a 5 oz serving each of four pre-selected brews.

Of course, non-beer drinkers are also welcome. (The Drift has a great selection of wines, cocktails, appetizers and soft drinks.) And if you just want to drink and listen, you’re welcome, too, but don’t be surprised when you end up joining in the singing!
