The Winterset Community Band will kick off their summer season tonight with the first of five concerts, all to take place on the lawn of the historic Bevington mansion on the grounds of the Madison County Historical Museum. This week, the VFW Auxiliary will serve a meal of pulled pork sandwiches, chips, bars, ice cream and a drink at 6:00pm, followed by the concert which will begin at 7:00. Next Week

Find Flat Charlie

June 6 through August 2nd
Madison County Historical Complex

Throughout the summer weeks, the museum will be hiding “Flat Charlie” around the museum grounds for little ones to find! Charlie, or Charles D. “Doc” Bevington, built the Bevington Mansion in 1856 and owned all the land that is now the Historical Complex.  Back then, Charlie roamed this ground and this summer he’s doing it again.

Each week, Charlie will be hidden in a new location, and picture clues of where he’s hiding will be posted to our Facebook and Instagram social media pages. The pictures will further reveal Charlie’s location throughout the week, until he’s found. The first child to spot Charlie each week will receive a prize of a free local treat!

The first week of Flat Charlie will be June 6. Keep an eye on the Madison County Historical Museum’s Facebook page to try your hand at finding Charlie’s first hiding spot!

There is no cost to attend and the drink special of the night will be the “Perfect Fourth” Flight—a 5 oz serving each of four pre-selected brews.

Of course, non-beer drinkers are also welcome. (The Drift has a great selection of wines, cocktails, appetizers and soft drinks.) And if you just want to drink and listen, you’re welcome, too, but don’t be surprised when you end up joining in the singing!
