Weekend in Winterset • November 12

For my entire life, my family and I have teased my mother about being cold blooded because as soon as the thermometer dips below 40˚, you’ll never find her without two layers of clothing on. As much as I hate to admit it, I’m sitting in my 66˚ office this morning with leggings under my jeans, a vest and a scarf and I’m considering skipping lunch because I don’t want to go back outside! *sigh*

No, I’m sure not a fan of the cold, but I do enjoy several things about this time of year in Winterset. I love the greenery on the lampposts around the square, the amazing window displays in the retail shops on our square (and the awesome shopping!), and the FOOD. Oh…the FOOD! Break out the comfort food and the stretch-waist pants. This weekend the Winterset Optimist will fill our tummies with a delicious turkey dinner and in ten days, the Winterset Lions Club will offer warm bowls of soup to satisfy our hunger. And, knowing that the dollars will ultimately go back into our community through various service projects is added warmth!
