The Madison County Women’s Giving Circle recently awarded over $6000 to be used to provide therapy sessions for first responders, and their families, and families affected by the recent tornado and storms. $6185 was the exact total, representing 113 members of the circle. Madison County Women’s Giving Circle is open to all women who are willing to write $50 quarterly checks to non-profit group that serves women, children, and families in Madison County. Contact Ester Mae Cox at missestermae@gmail.com for membership information. Quarterly meetings in 2022 will be: June 28, September 27, and 4th Quarter TBD (late November or early December).

Madison County Music Co. Spring Recital

Saturday • May 21 •1:30 and 3:30pm
Winterset High School Auditorium

Help yourself to a healthy dose of awesomeness as over 60 performers of all ages show off their musical skills in this spring showcase! The 1:30 recital will feature violin, piano, guitar, and flute students as well as adult and youth choirs. The 3:30 recital will feature more piano and guitar students plus ukulele. There is no admission charge.

Join Linda Griffith Smith as she shares Winterset Cemetery Stories. Winterset’s cemetery is the largest in Madison County and the most active for burials, visits, and genealogical inquiries. It serves as the backdrop to sorrow, county history, Veteran commemorations, high school classes, and physical fitness. This session will look at all these facets and provide a few of its most intriguing stories.

Memorial Day Observances

Friday • May 27th through Monday • May 30th
American Legion and VFW Veterans

American Legion and VFW Veterans announce the following for Memorial weekend.

  • Friday, May 27th, 9:00am – American Legion will be placing white crosses and gravesite flags at the Winterset Cemetery.
  • Saturday, May 28th, 3:00pm – Poles and markers will be placed for the Avenue of Flags.
  • Sunday, May 29th, 7:00am – VFW and American Legion will be putting up the Avenue of Flags
  • Monday, May 30th (Memorial Day), 10:00am – Parade starting at the Legion Hall. Services at the Cemetery beginning at 10:30am. In case of inclement weather the services will be held in the Henry Miller Auditorium at the High School beginning at 10:30am.
  • Monday, May 30th, 3:00pm – Avenue of Flags will be taken down as well as the white crosses and grave site flags.

Volunteers of Winterset citizens are welcome and needed for Friday to help with grave site flags, Sunday to put up the Flags and Monday to take them down. Over 1100 flags will decorate the grave sites and 600 flags will be displayed along the Avenue of Flags.

Winterset Rotary is proud to one again host the annual John Wayne 5K Walk/Run. Proceeds benefit Winterset Rotary youth projects including the Inclusive Playground, Scholarships, and CRISP.

This year’s annual Airing of the Quilts will also include three days of classes and retreats culminating in the ‘big event’ when hundreds of quilts are on display throughout our beautiful community! Early Bird Tickets are on sale NOW!

This photo is a few years old. Ron Fletcher, very sadly, is no longer with us. I’m sure the community band still feels his absence every time they gather.

The Winterset Community Band will kick off their summer season on Thursday, June 2nd, with the first of five concerts, all to take place on the lawn of the historic Bevington mansion on the grounds of the Madison County Historical Museum. At this event, the VFW Auxiliary will serve a meal at 6:00pm followed by the concert which will begin at 7:00. This is hometown music at it’s finest!

Ladies Tea Party

Saturday • June 4 • 10:00am
Madison County Historical Complex

Moms and daughters (ages 3-12), and their grandmas, are invited to dress up in their fanciest outfits for a morning of tea and light refreshments on the lawn at the Madison County Historical Museum. The event will include Victorian lawn games, a photo opportunity and a look through a real Victorian mansion. Cost is $10/adult and $5/child, and space is limited. In case of inclement weather, the tea will be held inside the museum lounge.
