Weekend in Winterset • October 14

Of course, we often talk about the holiday season as ‘the season for giving’ but, really, is there a season that’s not for giving? 🙂 Our friends at CRISP (Community Resources in Service to People) are already looking ahead and preparing for the needs that will arise in our community with the onset of colder weather and the holiday season. Here’s how you, most wonderful Winterset Citizens, can help!

Christmas4Kids

Help make Christmas a little brighter for Madison County children in need by sponsoring a child.  The holiday gift program makes it EASY for you to get involved. Here are the details:

  • Send in your name or organization’s name, along with contact information and how many children you
want to sponsor by October 29th. You will be provided with a wish list for each child (numbers are used instead of names to protect privacy).
  • Deliver your gifts to CRISP with the client number attached and gift receipts (for clothing & shoes only). Do not wrap your gifts, however you may donate gift wrap, bows, and tape.

CRISP will contact sponsors by November 12th. Gifts can be dropped off from November 16 through December 3.

Nuts & Candy Fundraiser

The yummiest way to support CRISP is through their nuts and candy fundraiser, which they’ve been doing for nearly 20 years. The Terri Lynn nuts & candy catalog and order sheet are linked below.  If you are interested in supporting CRISP with a purchase, please fill out your order sheet and drop off your order, with payment included, to CRISP at 210 W. Green Street, Winterset. Product will be delivered prior to Thanksgiving, so these items are perfect for holiday baking, stocking stuffers, or Christmas gifts!

Live Music: Clayton Ryan

Sunday • 10/17 • 7:00pm
The Iowa Theater

Clayton Ryan, a 2014 graduate of Winterset High School, is coming home this weekend for a one-night-only performance at the Iowa Theater.

A versatile multi-instrumentalist, Clayton was writing and performing from a very young age, competing in national blues competitions, and winning awards and recognition in the jazz and blues idioms. Now, he has honed a sound that is seared with twangy, spaghetti western guitars, thundering drums, and a howling voice that echoes of the golden age of soul music. The energy of his live shows is made two-fold by his massive, looming stature that has given him the nickname “The Singing Mountain.”

Clayton has worked and opened for acts such as Jalan Crossland, Koe Wetzel, Cristina Vane, Walking Papers, Chad Elliott, and Celtic Woman. He has made appearances at The Des Moines Art Festival, Feelin’ Sour? Funk Festival, The Iowa State Fair, Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Wild Bill Days, CaveFest X, and Iowa Public Radio. His song, “Wishful Thinking” made the list for DMUSA Music Mix 2018, featuring 13 prominent Iowa songwriters.

Tickets are $15 for adult and $10 for children at this all-ages concert.
