Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, we will not be creating a post for the Winterset Citizen next week.

Holiday Hop

Saturday • 11/23 • 8:30am – 1:30pm
Winterset Churches & Winterset Art Center

Crafts, decorations and homemade goodies will be ALL OVER Winterset on Saturday, November 23rd. Breakfast, lunch & lots of baked goods will be available so, it will literally be impossible to finish this trek hungry! As you eat your way around town, stop by every location, fill up your punchcard, drop it off at St. Paul Lutheran before 1:30 pm and you will be entered in a drawing to receive a $35 gift card.

Next Up at the Iowa Theater

Elsa and Anna (plus Olaf, Sven & Christof) are returning to the silver screen for more snowy adventures and the Iowa Theater will get Frozen 2 on its opening weekend! You’ll have twelve chances to see it right here in Winterset.


School’s Out Movie

The Winterset Optimist Club invites children and families to a free showing of “Wonder Park” (rated PG) on Monday, November 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the Iowa Theater. Viewers should buckle up for this epic animated adventure where anything is possible. A young girl named June with a big imagination makes an incredible discovery—the amusement park of her dreams has come to life! Filled with the world’s wildest rides and operated by fun-loving animals, the excitement never ends. But when trouble hits, June and her misfit team of furry friends begin an unforgettable journey to save the park.

The Winterset Optimist Club encourages and provides support for local youth activities. Admission to this movie is free compliments of the Winterset Optimist Club.

Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner

Thursday • 11/28 • Noon
First United Methodist Church

Join the United Methodist Church as they celebrate with fellowship and FREE thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. Transportation will be provided within the city limits if needed or a meal can be delivered to those unable to come to the church. They would appreciate a reservation as soon as possible, but no one will be turned away. For a reservation please call Phyllis Kaldenberg at 462-4731. Please leave a message with your name, phone number, number of meals and if you will be dining in or need a delivery.


Winterset Festival of Lights

Friday • 11/29 • 5:00 – 8:00pm
Courthouse Square

Come to the square on Friday evening to see Santa, enjoy a lighted parade, delicious treats, Shop Local & hear live music. Santa and his elves arrive at 5pm, Free horse & wagon rides, live music begins on the West steps of the courthouse at 5:30pm, and the lighted parade starts at 7:15pm. Help Santa warm up Madison County by donating new hats, scarves, gloves & mittens to the Santa Claus-et on the southwest corner of the courthouse.

16th Annual Darwin Dasher Christmas Concert

Sunday • 12/1 • 4:00pm Concert • 5:00pm Soup Supper
Henry C Miller Auditorium

Join the Winterset Community Band for a late afternoon of Christmas music. Following the concert, a free will offering soup supper sponsored by the Winterset Band Boosters will be held in the HS cafeteria adjacent to the auditorium.


Madison County Women’s Giving Circle Meeting

Tuesday • 12/3 • 6:00 – 8:00pm
Union State Bank Meeting Room

All women are invited to come and check it out! Bring a treat to share and get to know the other members as you kick off the holiday season. If you’d like to participate and give, 4th quarter checks should be written to the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines – for the Madison County Women’s Giving Circle endowment fund.

Shown here, Laura Bertelson, Ester Mae Cox, Bobbie Kennedy, Peggy Sullivan present the Women’s Giving Circle 3rd quarter check to Madison County Conservation Board Naturalist Amy Warnke, and representatives of the Madison County Foundation for Environmental Education Chance Eckles, Veda Hupton & Naomi Hupton.

Over 120 women contributed to the $6,150 donation for the funding of the Nature Center at Pammel Park.
