Weekend in Winterset, Feb. 9-11

Ok, so the weather looks a little rough this weekend, but there are lots of motivating reasons to go out anyway. If you head up to the Winterset square during the Winterset Chocolate Walk on Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, you’ll be rewarded with chocolate samples and Valentine specials all around. And if the crowd is smaller due to the weather, that’s all the more for you! Participating merchants will have this sign posted in their window.

Madison County Conservation is hosting an Owl Prowl Program from 6:30 to 8:00 pm this evening, February 8th, starting at Pammel Park Lodge. It will start with a short interpretive program covering the anatomy of an owl and end with a night hike through Pammel Park, where they will do their best to call in one of the park’s resident owls. Pre-registration is requested. To pre-register, contact the conservation board at 515-462-3536 or e-mail naturalist@madisoncountyparks.org.

A new movie opens tonight (Thursday) at The Iowa Theater: The Shape of Water (R). A 2017 Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee in 13 categories, The Shape of Water is the story of a mute, isolated woman who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden, high-security government laboratory in 1962 Baltimore. Her life changes forever when she discovers the lab’s classified secret — a mysterious, scaled creature from South America that lives in a water tank. She soon learns that its fate and very survival lies in the hands of a hostile government agent and a marine biologist.

Covered Bridges Winery invites you to join them for an evening of Yoga, Wine & Chocolate on Friday, February 9th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. The experience will include a relaxing yoga class from 6:30 – 7:30, followed by a guided wine and chocolate pairing.
