Weekend in Winterset, March 14 – 17, 2019

Happy National Pi Day!

Remember that weird number from high school geometry that had something to do with calculating circles, started with 3.14, contained about a million digits after the decimal and looked like this: π? Well today, 3/14, is Pi Day! But instead of celebrating with a day full of mathematics, we went for the edible version. We visited our friends and Winterset Citizen sponsors at the Montross Pharmacy Soda Fountain and enjoyed a great slice of cherry pie with Kathy & Melissa. And it doesn’t have to be March 14th to enjoy a slice of pie at Montross—they’ve got pie every day!

Congratulations!

to Mikaela Lawrence who is advancing to the State FFA competition!

to Anna Blader, Haley Maynes, Mikaela Engnell & Casey Kleemeier as they were named Term 2 Renaissance scholars by Union State Bank!

and finally to our Boys Basketball Team for their 3rd place showing
at the State Tournament!

Hooray for WINTERSET!!

National Quilting Day

Saturday • 3/16 • 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Iowa Quilt Museum

The Iowa Quilt Museum is celebrating National Quilting Day this Saturday by adding a second exhibit and some special programming. In addition to their current main exhibit, Portraits: The Many Faces of Iowa Art Quilters, the museum will also display a pop-up exhibit of Irish Chain quilts (St. Patrick’s day being so close to follow). Quilt experts Valorie Bonk and Elizabeth Andrews will be at the museum all day offering quilt consultations so if you have an antique quilt that you’d like to know more about, you’re invited to bring your quilt and visit with the experts. They’ll even help you create a label and sew it to the back of the quilt so that all of the information you learn will stay with the quilt forever. Schedule a time for a quilt consultation at THIS LINK. At 1:00pm, the experts will present a lesson on care and preservation of antique quilts. All of these wonderful extras are included with the price of admission to the IQM, $6 for adults. If you do choose to have your quilt labeled, a $5 donation is suggested to cover the costs of materials.

Stout’s legacy with The Monuments Men continues today with the U.S. Committee of the Blue Shield, an organization that is protecting precious art from destruction in areas of global conflict.
