Weekend in Winterset, Sept 26 – 29, 2019

Only 5 days left!!…

Don’t forget to take the Heart & Soul Survey

And make sure YOUR voice is heard!

Madison County Heart & Soul is an initiative that recognizes that our county is diverse and made up of individual communities, rural areas, and neighborhoods. Heart & Soul’s purpose is to honor community pride as we develop a county-wide future that represents what matters most to the residents. The Heart & Soul organizers feel that the best way to identify Madison County’s distinctive character—and find the means to protect it—is to listen to people who live in the communities of the county.

You can help define the Heart & Soul of your community and Madison County by completing short, anonymous survey, but you need to do it soon!

This is the “Last call” to Winterset residents to complete this survey. After the end of September, the survey will close and the results will be collected and processed. Don’t miss your chance to share your thoughts in this important process. You can find everything you want to know about the process, and the survey, at the Madison County Heart & Soul website.

A Fons & Porter Homecoming
Exhibit & Special Events

October 3rd and 4th
Iowa Quilt Museum

In the mid-1970s, the Iowa State Extension office offered a beginning quilting class here in Madison County. Among the attendees of that class were Marianne Fons & Liz Porter. Four decades later, the duo has just been inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame because of the business they built bringing the art form to life to countless numbers of quilters. Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting resulted in a teaching series on public television, classes and lectures across the country, too many patterns and kits to count and a number of best-selling publications.

The Iowa Quilt Museum is honoring these two quilting legends here in the place where it all started with an exhibit of their quilts that will be on display from October 1st through January 5th. On October 3rd and 4th, the museum is hosting a series of events honoring Liz & Marianne and providing opportunities to spend some time rubbing elbows with them.

Tickets for the events can be purchased online through the Iowa Quilt Museum or by calling the museum at 515-462-5988.
