Lion King & A Night at the Movies

Sunday • June 26th • 6:30pm
The Iowa Theater with Winterset Ballet & Dance Studio

A one-hour program of top dances from Winterset Ballet & Dance’s recent, “Lion King,” recital and special, “A Night at the Movies,” segment will be presented at The Iowa Theater on Sunday, June 26. Doors open at 5:45 p.m., with seating at 6:00. Tickets are $15 for downstairs seats, and $20 for the first two, “premium seating,” balcony rows. Tickets for the third balcony row are $15, with the remaining back balcony rows (obstructed view) priced at $8. Purchase tickets in advance at www.the-iowa.com or at the door. Approximately 26 dancers will perform.

The special, one-time-only performance is a unique fundraiser for the Iowa Theater, which reopened in 2017 after a two-year, $1.5 million, full gut-and-rehab renovation that transformed the then-shuttered space into a state-of-the-art movie theater and live performance venue. The theater, a 501c3 nonprofit that belongs to the community, is also the home of The Winterset Stage, Madison County’s local theater organization.

“The Iowa reopened with almost $500K remaining in debt from its massive renovation,” commented theater board member Marianne Fons. “Since May of 2017, with tremendous community generosity and support and careful management, plus special programming such as last summer’s BROADWAY AT THE IOWA extravaganza,” The theater’s bank loan is now less than $300K. “Donations large and small are always appreciated,” Fons went on to say, “but our mission is to reduce the theater’s debt to zero over the next few years by offering fun, special programming such as this dance performance that people pay a little extra for but leave the theater feeling uplifted and happy rather than just writing a check or making a pledge.”
