Great Acts by Great Citizens

Optimist Scholarship Presentation

Stuart Hoven, president of the Winterset Optimist Club, recently presented $1,000 scholarships to Natalie Drake and Marlie McDonald on behalf of the club. Superintendent Justin Gross (right) is also a member. I always delight in the acts of our local service organizations and the way they support our community; especially its young people.

Welcome to Winterset Gathering

I think that one of the highest praises for our community is the way in which citizens seek out ways to be in service to one another and create opportunities for others. And here’s another example of it!

A group of Winterset Citizens decided to put together a “Welcome to Winterset” effort to encourage friendship-building and community assimilation. They brought the idea to our library team and, voila!, it’s happening! It will, primarily, be a social event, but will also be used to share important community information as well. Despite it being entitled Welcome to Winterset, it is certainly not limited to only Winterset residents.

The first iteration of this event will take place Thursday, January 20th, at 7:00 pm at the Winterset Public Library meeting room. All ages, all types are welcome! No cost, no obligation, just your time and desire to enjoy your Madison County experience a little more through developing friendships and fostering support for each other. It is the plan that this becomes a monthly meeting to encourage continued friendship building.

What this isn’t is an effort to sign you up for anything, sell you anything, encourage you to do anything, join anything, vote some way or another, go to this church or that church, or any other activity. Just come enjoy coffee, snacks and friendly, welcoming conversation at the Winterset Public Library on Thursday, January 20, at 7:00 pm!
