Chinese New Year begins Friday!
January 25th is the beginning of the Lunar Year and an eleven-day celebration called Spring Festival. The goal is to welcome the new year with a smile and invite fortune and happiness for the coming year. Avoid these ‘taboos’ on the first day of year so that you start the new year in a positive way!
Do not say negative words
Do not break ceramics or glass
Do not clean or sweep
Do not use scissors, knives or other sharp objects
Do not visit the wife’s family
Do not demand debt repayment
Avoid fighting and crying
Avoid taking medicine
Do not give New Year blessings to someone still in bed
Don’t tell someone to wake up!
If you’re wondering about the ‘why’ behind all of these, you can find out more on this website about Chinese New Year.
