MATURA Madison County Giving Tree

The Winterset Public Library is hosting a Christmas Giving Tree for MATURA this year. Here’s how you can help a local family in need this season: Stop by the library between now and December 16th, select a tag from the tree, purchase a gift or two and return it (unwrapped) right back to the library by December 17th.

Lunch Date at the Iowa Quilt Museum

Friday • 12/6 • 11:30 – 1:00
Iowa Quilt Museum with Marianne Fons

You’re invited to a lunch date at the Iowa Quilt Museum on Friday, December 6th. The current exhibit at the IQM features quilts by Liz Porter and Winterset’s own Marianne Fons! Did you know that before she was a famous quilter, she was famous for shooting a rattlesnake at her Madison County farm? The quilt that tells the story is included in the display along with a dozen more of Marianne’s beautiful creations.

The folks at the museum know that many locals have been wanting to come visit but it’s hard to find time, so they’re making it really easy—make it your lunch break! Marianne will give a guided tour at 12:15 but you’re welcome to stop in and have lunch any time from 11:30 – 1:00pm. No charge and no RSVP necessary. Lunch will include hot slider sandwiches & fixings, Pammel Park Coffee and Naomi’s Fudgy Oat Bars.

Nature Ornament Craft Day

Saturday • 12/7 • 9:00 – 11:00 am

This event is free and open to people of all ages. Parents/Grandparents bringing children are encouraged to participate in the crafts. Crafts will be available while supplies last. Walk-ins are welcome however pre-registration is available online and will guarantee your child access to craft supplies.

Great People doing Great Things!

After another successful ‘spooking season’ at their Haunted House, the Winterset FFA Student Chapter and the Blue & Gold FFA Boosters decided to make a generous donation to the Winterset American Legion. On Tuesday, they presented a check for $2675 to the members of the legion.

The Winterset Rotary Club recently installed a new can drop facility along Hwy 92 on the north edge of town (between Verizon and the FS Fuel Stop). They are ready to receive your donations and all proceeds go to Rotary, much of which gets funneled back to local organizations.

The Madison County Conservation board just sent out a wonderfully informative missive about the proposed Nature Center and the progress that is being made toward making that dream a reality. They are just $400,000 short of the $5 million needed for this project. You can make a one-time donation through their website or contact the Madison County Conservation Center about how to make a multi-year pledge.
