Halloween Hikes

Saturday • 10/26 • 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Pammel Park Lodge

Halloween Hikes is a family-friendly celebration inside Pammel Park that provides the community with a non-spooky way to celebrate this scary holiday. This year’s celebration will take place at the Pammel Park Lodge on Saturday, October 26th, from 6-8 pm.

Every year, the Winterset High School Conservation Club organizes skits and stories along the lodge trail located just behind the Pammel Park Lodge. This year, the theme for the skits will be CSI: Critter Scene Investigations. Hikers will have the chance to check out the scene of an animal party in the woods before working through each station to guess what animals were at the party. There will be fun things to look at along the way including animal tracks and scat.

Members of the conservation club will guide each group as they hike along the trail. Hikes leave the lodge every 15 minutes beginning at 6 pm with the last hike leaving the lodge at 7:45 pm.

This year there will be an assortment of games including pin-the-face on the pumpkin, witch hat toss, pumpkin bean bag toss, and a bat toss to play as you are waiting to go on your hike. There will also be opportunities to decorate sugar cookies and create a mummy craft.

Top off your visit with a hayrack ride to the campground for trick-or-treating. Once you return from the hayrack ride, make another stop inside the lodge to warm up with homemade goodies and a cup of the crowd-pleasing Wassail (spiced apple cider).

Tickets for Halloween Hikes are $5/person (children and adults) and are available in advance by contacting the Madison County Conservation board at 515-462-3536 or e-mailing naturalist@madisoncountyparks.org. Hike times can be reserved at the time of ticket purchase. Tickets will also be available at the gate on the night of the event.
