Stout’s legacy with The Monuments Men continues today with the U.S. Committee of the Blue Shield, an organization that is protecting precious art from destruction in areas of global conflict. Stout’s innovative methods of art conservation, created some 90 years ago, are still used today in major museums around the world.
The world premier of the documentary about this hero and his legendary work is happening right here in Winterset at the Iowa Theater with two screenings: Saturday, March 30th, at 7:00pm and Sunday, March 31st, and 3:00 pm. At the red-carpet event on Saturday, you can also meet Emmy-winning film-makers Kevin Kelley & Marie Wilkes from New Mile Media Arts in Iowa City and converse with George Stout’s family. A champagne reception will be hosted at Northside Cafe at 8:45 pm, with George Stout’s own artworks on display.
