Celebrating National Girl Scout Day!

We’re deviating from our typical Weekend in Winterset post today for a special feature because it’s National Girl Scout Day!

This is the Winterset/Earlham Girl Scout Service Unit. They’ve had their helpful hands in several service projects like a food drive for our local food pantries and gathering warm clothes for the homeless. Every troop participates in community service projects, such as Christmas shopping for those in need, gathering donations and making items for animal rescues, and providing school supplies. The Girl Scouts plan several activities each year including an annual fall camp out, pine car derby, father/daughter dance, and mother/daughter event for fun. AND THEY SELL THE BEST COOKIES! (We were going to share a picture of us enjoying our Girl Scout cookies…but we’ve eaten them all already!)

If you know someone who is interested in joining our local Girls Scouts, the organization is offering free membership for girls and leaders that join Girl Scouts now through March 16th. You can learn more about that at www.girlscoutsiowa.org. Thank you to local leader, Darcy Geoghegan, for providing us with this information!
