Weekend in Winterset, January 3rd-6th, 2019

Great Citizens

Winterset Optimist Club President Rob Meade presented $1,000 scholarships to Ally Pickering and Jacob Dick at a recent club meeting.  These students were selected for their academics, leadership, and previous involvement as Junior Optimist International (JOI) Club members in Winterset. We have great citizens in both the scholarship recipients & the Optimist Club who chooses to recognize them for their efforts!

Farris Cemetery Restoration Update

Tuesday • 1/8 • 7:00 pm
Winterset Public Library

This program, presented by Madison County Historic Preservation Commissioner Molly Clause, will provide an update on the Farris Cemetery restoration in Union Township.  Molly along with a group known as the “Farris Cemetery Advocacy Group,” are giving this cemetery some much needed love and respect.  Headstones plowed to one side fifty years ago are finding their way back to their locations.  The Office of the State Archeologist used Ground Penetrating Radar to discover many more graves than are documented.  This group has engaged several community groups and used various fundraising techniques.  Come hear how far they have come and what is still planned.

The Madison County Genealogical Society monthly meeting will follow this free, educational program.  All are welcome to attend.
