Weekend in Winterset, Aug. 30th – Sept. 2nd, 2018

Great People, Great Things

Since 2014 the Mentor Iowa Program has provided support for at least 150 children in Madison County. Mentor Iowa started by helping with Christmas gifts for youth that would not have received any gifts. Many times Mentor Iowa is able to help provide support on a short timeline, something that other agencies are not always able to do.

Mentor Iowa also helps families throughout the year with needs that a family might not be able to afford. Mentor Iowa has helped with sports equipment, uniforms, school supplies, family needs, sports camp fees and extra curricular fees and supplies.

Juvenile Court Officer Phil Douglas says of Mentor Iowa, “I am impressed to say that I have never been turned down for a request for either a child or family. I am really happy to hear that Mentor Iowa is also interested in expanding the mentoring program and group activities program into Madison County as it would be so beneficial to our kids. Group activities have  included Iowa Cubs games, Des Moines Zoo, Omaha Zoo, Civic Center Shows, Art Center, craft activities, & Adventureland. Every study I have run across talks about the short and long term benefits of mentoring to our children. When I first asked if Mentor Iowa would assist children in Madison County they did not ask where the children lived, just what they needed. Mentor Iowa  has been a great asset to our kids and families.”

The Madison County Women’s Giving Circle has just made their 2nd quarter donation for this year to Mentor Iowa. A check in the amount of $6,310 was awarded on Wednesday, August 29th. Great job ladies!!

Before any of that, though, they invite anyone who is even remotely interested in the production to the ScripTease on Sunday, September 16th at 6:00 pm at the Iowa Theater. You’ll have a chance to read the script, hear the songs and learn about what roles are available. It’s very informal and everyone is welcome.
