The Winterset Junior High/High School library will be open today, Thursday, June 21st, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm for summer checkout and game time. You can enter through the Junior High main doors to visit the library during summer hours.

The Winterset Community Band continues with the third installation of their summer Lawn Chair Night concert series tonight, Thursday, June 21st. Pulled pork sandwiches, chips, desserts & ice cream will be served by the Kiwanis beginning at 6:30 pm, and the concert starts at 7:00 pm. There will be a Martial Arts demonstration held during the concert intermission.

It’s Trivia Night at the Winterset Cidery 7:00 pm TONIGHT, Thursday, June 21st. Play to win a free round for your team, Winterset Cidery merchandise and bragging rights all season. Teams should be between 1 and 6 players. No need to pre-register.

 

Get up close with nature during the Arts in the Park Watercolor Painting on Friday, June 22nd, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the Pammel Park Lodge. Instructor Amy Maiers will lead this class which focuses on looking closely at natural items like flowers, leaves, and bugs in their natural environment. Learn how to create a composition and use water color techniques to create a “snap shot” painting. Class fee is $20 and advance registration and payment are required. This event is co-sponsored by the Winterset Art Center and Madison County Conservation and you can register by contacting wintersetart2016@gmail.com

 

Join Madison County Realty and Winterset Park and Recreation department for a Movie in the Park.  They will be showing Disney’s ICE AGE Friday, June 22nd.  Movie begins at approximately 9:00 pm at the North Shelter in Winterset City Park.  Free admission and POPCORN!!!  Bring your own drink and lawn chair or blanket.

Head on down to the Madison County Farmers Market on Saturday from 8:00 am to noon.  This Saturday, June 23rd, they have free entertainment from Hank Bauer. Music and popcorn is being provided by Farmer’s and Merchant’s State Bank to celebrate the Farmer’s Market and their 25th year of selling fresh produce, baked goods, jams & jellies and lots more.

On Saturday, June 23rd, enjoy an elegant evening full of Colorado culinary delights prepared by Executive Chef Dana Rodriguez as she Cooks for the Books in support of the Friends of Winterset Public Library. A celebrated chef in Colorado, Dana is a James Beard Award nominee and a “Top Chef” Guest Judge. Tickets are $50 per person which includes dinner and beverages. Tickets are available at the Library or online. Doors open at 6:30 pm and dinner begins at 7:00 pm. All proceeds from this evening’s fundraiser will go to support children and youth projects and collections at the Winterset Public Library.

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story (PG-13), showing at the Iowa this weekend.  An all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

The Avenue of the Saints in St. Charles will host the Big Country Bash this weekend. If you’re a country music fan, this would definitely be worth the 15 minute drive.  Check out their website for more information and tickets.

Remember a few weeks ago when we shared about the Madison County Women’s Giving Circle and the big fat check that they presented to the Winterset Public Library? If you’d like to become a part of that group of philanthropic women, you’re invited to attend their Quarterly Meeting on Tuesday, June 26th at 6:30 pm in the back room at Sports Page. If you’d like to eat dinner before the meeting, come at 5:30.

On Tuesday, June 26th, HCI Hospice will begin a new eight-week session on Understanding your Grief. Meetings are held on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 4:30 pm and pre-registration is required. Contact walbert@hcicareservices.org to register.

The Madison County Historical Society will hold their annual Fundraising Barn Sale on Friday, June 29th, and Saturday, June 30th. They are already accepting donations so go clean out your basement, garage or attic and, instead of going through the work of holding your own garage sale, donate it to the MCHS! Call 462-2134 to schedule a drop off time. Then come back for the sale and find some new treasures.

Quilt artist Victoria Findlay Wolfe will return to the Iowa Quilt Museum on Friday, June 29th, at 5:30 pm, to give a lecture titled Creativity & Play. Findlay Wolfe is an internationally acclaimed modern quilter based in New York City and the first ever retrospective of her work is currently on display at the IQM. Tickets to the lecture are $10 and seating is limited. Tickets can be purchased in advance through the Iowa Quilt Museum.

Farmers & Merchants State Bank will be hosting their Money Tree Swimming Party on Sunday, July 1st, from 6:15 to 8:15 pm. Reservations are REQUIRED. Please call 515-462-4242 for questions and reservations.

The annual Refuge Color Run 5k is scheduled for July 7th. This event is all about spreading the news of what God is doing at The Refuge (a ministry of Redeemer Church), raising some money for the ministry, and having a great time! Besides the run, there will be food and games. You won’t want to miss out! Packet pickup is at 8:30 am on July 7th and the race starts at 9:00 am. Registration is $25 from now until June 28th, and after June 28th is $30.  Each registration includes a t-shirt and glasses!  Click here to register today or visit their website for more information.

New Bridge Church will the Upward Basketball Camp again this year in Winterset. Children going into kindergarten through children going into 6th grade are invited to join the fun & register. The camp will be held at the Winterset Elementary Gym, July 23rd – 26th, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.

UPWARD camps help build athletes through mental, athletic, spiritual and social disciplines through skill training, character development, drills and gameplay. Athletes will receive: a basketball, a t-shirt, a water bottle and performance poster.

If you have any questions or to register your child, call the New Bridge Church office at 515-462-1050. The deadline for early registration is July 2nd, and is $30 per player; New Bridge will pay $15 of the cost for those who meet the deadline. The final deadline for registration is July 10th.  Space is limited so please register your child soon.

Parents are invited to come at 4:00 pm on Thursday afternoon to watch their children play a game of basketball and receive their gifts.

Vendor applications for the 2018 Madison County Covered Bridge Festival are now being accepted. The “Made in Madison County” tent is coming back this year and local residents with handmade crafts can can apply for a spot for only $65. You can download that application and others at the Chamber of Commerce website.
