Weekend in Winterset, Nov. 4-6

Lots going on this weekend in Winterset!

First, stop by Pine Creek this Thursday (today) through Sunday for their annual Holiday Open House. Shop for the latest seasonal and home decor while enjoying hot apple cider and food samples. Be sure to register for door prizes! Open Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday from noon to 4:00 pm.

Re:home is open this weekend too, starting today, and two more weekends in November!

The WHS High School Drama and Music Departments are teaming up to produce Oliver!, the award-winning musical adaptation of the classic Dickens’ novel, Oliver Twist. Performances are Friday and Saturday, November 4th and 5th at 7:00 pm in Miller Auditorium at WHS. Buy your tickets early if you can, as they plan on selling out these two shows. You can purchase tickets in advance by emailing Jon Barrett at jbarrett@winterset.k12.ia.us. Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for students. You may also use your activities pass to see the show, if you have one: just email your reservation to Jon Barrett and then bring your activities pass with you to get your ticket the night of the show.

There will be over 120 students on stage for this production of Oliver!. Main roles include Shaylan Phillips as Oliver, Trevor Kems as Fagin, Jocelyn Hoven as The Artful Dodger, Maxwell Wangler as Bill Sikes, and Amanda Riley as Nancy. Supporting roles include Gracie Daniels as Bet, Konner Wills as Mr. Bumble, Bekah Nau as Widow Corney, Lane Bindel as Mr. Brownlow, Garrett Livingston as Mr. Sowerberry and Sydney Lowe as Mrs. Sowerberry.

The show’s producers noted, “This big of a production could not be put on without the help of many volunteers. Chris Bertelson designed and built the set, Craig McMann designed lights, Meisha Sible designed and found costumes for over 120 students, and Megan Barrett designed and taught choreography. The vocal and band boosters also support the show with their time and talents.” Oliver! is directed by Meredith McKay, with musical support by Jon Barrett and Pam Schroeder.

If you’re looking for a place to eat before the show on Saturday night, you’re in luck! The annual Harvest Hamball Dinner by St. Paul Lutheran Church will be held Saturday, November 5th. Dine in or call ahead for carryout, 462-9408.

And the next day, you can eat lunch at the Art Center for their annual Soup and Chili Day Fundraiser, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm, with soup/chili contest, children’s activities (in Studio A from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm), and memberships available. (Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night, or you might miss it!)

St. Joseph Catholic Church is also having their Benefit Dinner & Auction on Sunday, November 6th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in their fellowship hall at 1026 N. 8th Avenue, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. It is open to the public, and they’ll be serving pork sandwiches, chips, bars and beverages for a free-will offering.
