The Madison County Fair has begun, and there is free gate admission to it every single day through Sunday, July 17th.

For a complete lineup of events at the fair, you’ll want to check out madisoncountyfair.net/fair_schedule. I’ll also share a few of the main attractions with you here, starting tonight, along with other things happening in Winterset this weekend.
Thursday
The annual Bill Riley Talent Show takes place Thursday (today) at 5:30 pm at the North Show Ring, sponsored by Tuttle Insurance. And at 8:00 pm, you can see the first of two Rough Stock Rodeos.
Friday
On the Friday afternoon of the fair at 2:00 pm, look for Winterset’s Wayne Martens of Midwest Heritage Bank behind the bleachers (east side) of the cattle show ring. He’ll be handing out free watermelon until 4:00, or until he runs out, whichever comes first! Catch the Celebrity Swine Show at 5:30 on Friday, followed by the Dog Show at 6:30. Karaoke will be held from 8:00 to 11:00 pm in the North Show Ring, and the second Rough Stock Rodeo starts at 8:00 pm.
Out at the Madison County Historical Complex on Friday, the Passport to the Past McKee Barn Sale starts on Friday at 8:00 am and closes at 5:00 pm.
Saturday
Back to the fair, Saturday is Kids’ Day at the carnival, where children can buy an arm band for $12.00 and ride all the rides they want from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. There’s an Archery Tournament planned for 1:00 pm at the south end of the motor arena, and Open Class Bucket/Bottle Calf Show at 1:30. The R&B Tire & Auto Circle Track Mud Run starts at 7:00.
Elsewhere in town, the Madison County Farmers Market will be held on Saturday morning from 8:00 am to noon on the perimeter of the courthouse lawn, and the Passport to the Past McKee Barn Sale continues from 8:00 to 11:00 am at the Madison County Historical Complex.
And on Saturday evening, you can find live music at Covered Bridges Winery with Infuzion at 7:00 pm.

Sunday
At the fair, watch the Farmer Chore Olympics, Sponsored by the 4-H Youth Council, from 1:30 to 3:30 at the North Show Ring. The R&B Tire & Auto Mud Bog starts at 7:00.
Re:home is open this weekend and also gearing up for Winterset’s Krazy Days on July 29th and 30th.
Coming Soon
Monday Family Movie will be held on July 18 at the Library, from 2:00-3:30 pm, and the selection is “Zootopia.” This event is also free and open to the public, and registration is not required.
Finally, on Tuesday, July 19th at 6:30 pm, you’re invited to A July Berry Jamboree. Celebrate National Berry Month with ISU Extension and Outreach in Madison County. As adults learn to choose the best berries and fruits and how to prepare them, children will participate in food activities, crafts and coloring. Plus, guests will sample and take home the recipe for a delicious multi-berry pizza. Register by Friday, July 15 with Kathleen at: kboldman@iastate.edu or (515) 462-1001. $2 per household.
It’s also time to get this major nearby event on your radar: the Hinterland Music Festival in St. Charles, August 5th and 6th, will feature a blend of music, camping, art, craft vendors, and family events, with headliner Willie Nelson on Saturday. Find more information at http://hinterlandiowa.com.
